At Arlo SoHo Hotel NYC, we embrace all our city’s neighborhoods. Each neighborhood has some unique buildings, people, cuisine, and culture. But when our guests ask us where they should spend a day in New York City so they can maximize their time, we often point them to Midtown.
Here are some of our favorite attractions in Midtown, besides Time Square, which we know most of our guests will certainly visit.
Some visitors assume Grand Central Terminal is simply a train station. While it does serve that function, it offers much more. The building’s design is breathtaking, with incredible details such as oak leaves and a gorgeous, tiled floor. There’s a romantic energy to the terminal, along with many great places to eat including the famous Oyster Bar.
Rockefeller Center is another great Midtown destination. During the winter there’s the iconic tree and ice skating, but we prefer the famous views. The Top of the Rock at 30 Rockefeller Plaza features a sweeping panoramic view that many of us feel is the best in the city. Our staff at Arlo SoHo Hotel NYC say there’s usually a shorter wait time for this observation deck compared to the Empire State Building, and the deck itself is considerably larger. It offers a full north and south view, so you can get a sense of the scale and majesty of the city.
For a street-level experience, stop by Bryant Park. Located near Grand Central Terminal, this park offers outdoor concerts, movie screenings, and ice skating in the winter. It’s a rare green space in Midtown and features a beautiful lawn with a skyscraper backdrop. It’s also adjacent to the Main Branch of the New York Public Library, so you can grab a book and take a few hours to read, and people watch.
