Murcia is one of the more authentic places in Spain, it is the capital of the region of Murcia and can give you a different kind of experience to that you’d find in Benidorm. It’s a wonderfully preserved historical town, previously isolated but now fully developed as it has brought in more visitors to see its sights. In such a small space Murcia manages to cram in an awful lot of landmarks and places that you absolutely must-see. These are the main attractions in the city.

Punte Viejo, The Old Bridge

The Punte Viejo is a 16th Century bridge that still functions and is the centre of the historical links of the city. It is thought to have been built out of the remnants of an even bridge, likely dating back to the original growth of Murcia.

Just beneath the bridge is a building that was previously a chapel, now a reminder of how life used to look here. While it isn’t going to take a whole day, this bridge is a sight that must be seen in Murcia.

Iglesia Catedral de Santa Maria en Murcia

The Murcia Cathedral is a stunning building that is still the centre of society in this city. The cathedral itself was built as part of a settlement between King Jamie I and the residents after he took the city. While agreeing to not destroy any of the existing Mosques in the city, the new king wanted to build a cathedral that promoted faith in the city. This opulent and elaborate cathedral did just that. Finishing construction on October 1467, it is still as impressive today as it was then.

Santuario de la Virgen de la Fuensanta

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Holy Fountain is a smaller church in Murcia, but no less important. It is established in 1694, only reaching completion in 1705. Despite being partially destroyed in the Spanish Civil War; restoration work has brought it back to its former glory. This church constructed in a classical style is something you need to see in Murcia.

This monastery offers some fantastic views for those who make the trip out to it. It may be a sombre and serious experience, but the peaceful outlook from the building is sure to give visitors a unique sense of perspective.

Casino de Murcia

Murcia isn’t just churches and old bridges; the city is home to all sorts of fun too. The Casino de Murcia is an exclusive private club where residents spend their time. However, during the day this historic casino is open to the public for guided tours, giving you a peek into one of the older and more opulent private casinos in Spain.

With so much to see, it is no surprise that so many are drawn in and search for wonderful properties in Murcia. The religious buildings make a wonderful backdrop to spend your summers in. Property for sale in Murcia often doesn’t last long. With this sort of appeal, a lot of people are finding they want to elongate their visits by finding property for sale in Murcia.
