4 Tips in Landing a Data Engineering Job

Landing a good job is a bit challenging. You must first identify the industry you want to be part of and take time to research about the job and company you dream to work on.

If you’re interested in pursuing a career in tech, you should be specific about the job you want to take as there are various jobs in this industry, one of which is Data Engineering. This area focuses on collecting, analyzing and validating big data of information.

Here are some tips to help you land on data engineering jobs:

Look for Data Jobs Online

Instead of applying for one or two data engineering jobs in local businesses, why not try to cast your net a little wider by researching online. There’s a lot of online job portals that could lead you to your dream job as a data engineer. If you have the qualities and great skill in data engineering, they can offer you several positions with the most competitive salary.

Make your Resume Stand Out

When it comes to compiling your resume or CV, your primary goal should be to convince the hiring manager that you have the necessary skills and qualifications in order to fill the position which they have listed. As a candidate applying for a data engineering job, make sure to mention your proficiency with SQL, Python, Java, and Scala. You can also highlight your familiarity in dealing with cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services.

Remember that you’re not applying for a general IT job or as a web developer so it’s crucial to tailor your resume or CV that’s fit for data engineering positions.

Reach Out to Companies

While it’s well worth starting off your job hunt by searching for companies that have posted job adverts for data engineers, another way to widen your search is to send out your CV or resume to the human resources department of companies that you’re interested to work in. Even if the businesses which you’ll approach might not have a current listing for a data engineer, they may keep your resume on file and contact you for an interview if a role opens up in the future. Remember that being assertive is important if you’re interested in chasing a career in the tech field.

Acquire Professional Certification

Having certifications is an additional advantage to land jobs in data engineering. This will give you more knowledge and credentials that can be added to your resume or CV. Obtaining a certification will prove that you have the right technical skill set and can help you secure a job as a data engineer.

Final Thoughts

Just because you’ve graduated from college with an IT degree doesn’t mean that it’s time to relax and to stop learning. As technology continues to develop and transform, it’s important to stay up to date with the latest developments in data engineering. With that, you’ll be able to keep up with the trends which can be an edge among other candidates during the interview.
