As we all know, the vegan movement is certainly gaining momentum. And most of us know someone what is taking on the Veganuary challenge or making a full conversion to a vegan or plant based lifestyle. Many vegans appreciate the fact that their lifestyle puts the welfare of animals and animal rights first, and they encourage others to do the same. However, if you’re not currently interested in changing your whole lifestyle just yet, or you’re just simply wanting to make more of a difference to animals but are unsure how, then there are plenty of ways you can help.
Read on for 4 super easy ways you can be kinder to animals this year.
Avoid leather
I’ve never really been a fan of leather, it smells strange and I prefer materials that are warm and comfortable. You might be surprised to hear that many celebrities are ditching leather and going for more plant based or kinder alternatives. Any recent red carpet event has seen celebrities wearing the latest vegan fashion – check out Vogue articles on the Met Gala 2019 here. And the good news is that leather alternatives are available online and on the high street at prices we can afford too!
Bags, belts, purses, boots and jackets all can be made from cork, plant fabrics and vegan leather. All are durable too! So they’ll last.
Pick up litter
We’ve all seen the terrible effect that plastic has in our oceans. It can all seem pretty hopeless. But don’t despair. You can do you bit by picking up any litter you see on the ground. Wildlife can easily get entangled in rubbish or choke on microplastics, mistaking them for food. Even the family dog can decide to eat a bottle cap or crisp packet. So if you see some rubbish on the ground, dispose of it.
Try something a little different
How wonderful is that first coffee of the morning? We all love a little caffeine boost to help get the day off to a good start, so how about trying something different with it. Instead of cows milk, you could try a splash of a plant based alternative. Almond, coconut, rice, soy, oat, hemp – there are so many to choose from, each either sweetened or unsweetened. If you like tea, then try a splash of soy milk to keep it traditional. If you love an indulgent coffee then a coconut latte is a real treat!
Switch up your makeup routine
You might have worn the same makeup brand since you were 14. We all know what works well for us. But if you want to help animals, make sure that the brand you’re using is cruelty free and Vegan too. Cruelty free means that its not tested on animals and vegan makeup is a product that doesn’t contain things like honey, beeswax, collagen or gelatine. The good news is that there are plenty of high end and budget friendly makeup brands that provide vegan and cruelty free makeup. All with rave reviews! Go and check them out!
