When it comes to football analysis there are few who I respect more than Remi Landau, a man who has been there and done it, and who really does know his stuff. At the start of this season he made a pick for Tottenham Hotspur, my team as it happens, to pick up the Premier League this year, something which I was questioning from the beginning. As the season has started to progress however, it seems that he really did know what he was talking about and prior to this week, Spurs were doing very well indeed. Admittedly this has been a tough week and following losses to Liverpool and Leicester, Spurs now sit in 5th place. Despite this tricky patch however, here is how the Lilywhites can still do it.
Plan B Football
The new counter attacking style which Mourinho has brought to Spurs has found them some success so far, but on the couple of occasions when the opposition has caught on to it, Spurs have been very easily nullified. It is one thing to get a goal up and sit deep against Manchester City, but this is not how to play against teams like Crystal Palace or Fulham. Spurs have to find another way to win.
Focus
Spurs will be most unhappy at the fact that they have lost so many points in the last 10 minutes of games. Against newcastle a penalty was given away in minute 89, against West Hame the team lost a 3 goal lead with the equalizer coming in minute 90, against Liverpool they lost the draw in the 91st minute and against Palace they conceded a 1-0 winning position in the 81st minute. Right there are 7 points which the team dropped, and no team going for the title can do that.
Resting Players
It must be hard for Jose to rest players like Harry Kane and Heung Min Son simply because they are both in the form of their lives at the moment but this is simply what has to be done in order for this team to keep on pushing. When it comes to cup games or games when we are comfortably winning, the boss has to pull the players off and give them rest. Without Kane or Son, Spurs will not win a single thing, and that is why he must protect them as much as possible.
Big Home Games
When it comes to the likes of City and Liverpool, Tottenham absolutely have to win the home games against the teams up at the top of the table. If we can draw away then fine, but at home we have to be a fortress, just like Liverpool have done with Anfield. Teams should have already lost before the whistle for kick off, that is what Spurs have to create and in order to do that, they need to be putting teams to the sword.
