If a business wants to improve its digital marketing, do you think it should check out its successful competition and copy them?
Always check out your competition. Absolutely, they have the same customer base as you so you can see what they’re doing that works and what they’re doing that doesn’t work.
Don’t just copy them because then you will be seen as second rate or the generic version of that company. Look at what a successful business is doing and try to abstract the strategy so that you can mold it in a way that is unique to your own business.
Don’t just look at your direct competition. Look at large multi-billion-dollar companies and see what they do. Try to emulate it without copying it.
I see a lot of businesses making the same mistakes on social media. They will only use Facebook to post ads, while completely ignoring Instagram and Twitter.
Or they will just post the same announcements and deals across every single platform. You have to use social media as more than a billboard for advertising, otherwise, customers won’t want to follow you.
You have to stay diverse as well, if you post the same thing on every platform, people have no reason to follow more than one of them.
Is there anything quick and easy that businesses can do to notice an immediate improvement with their digital marketing?
The easiest thing a business can do right now that is cheap and easy is to do some simple website upgrades. Add a blog section and a newsletter so customers have something to read and a reason to come back.
Add testimonials somewhere to gain more trust and drive sales. And work on improving the SEO across your entire site.
Are there any new technologies or strategies that businesses could utilize in order to get an edge in the marketing world?
There is always new tech to try out. Right now, influencer marketing is really in. There’s a reason for this, of course.
Influencers are almost like modern-day celebrities, except a lot cheaper to advertise with. You just have to find an influencer that can reach your customers and can work as a professional.
Once you find a good one that you can work well with, influencer marketing is one of the best investments you can make.
Are statistics important in your opinion? What if someone doesn’t want to deal with analytics or statistics?
If you don’t want to deal with statistics or analytics, then you should find someone that does and pay them extra. I do believe statistics are extremely important because they show you what is working and what isn’t.
Analytics help you understand if you’re putting your money in the right places or not. Without stats, you’re just going in blind, which is never optimal.
